Brian “Kaunaloa” Boshard was named the new kahu (chaplain) at Kamehameha Schools Hawaii.
Boshard replaces kahu Ruth Farrell, who left KS Hawaii in December after two years of service.
The campus kahu is responsible for leading, supporting, evaluating and assessing the spiritual and moral growth of KS Hawaii campus students through the development and integration of curriculum and programs consistent with the tenets of the Protestant faith.
The kahu also plans, facilitates and implements the academic religious education program and worship services for students and staff.
“Kamehameha Schools is a values-based organization grounded in Christian and Hawaiian values,” said Kahealani Nae‘ole-Wong, interim po‘o kula (head of school) for KS Hawaii.
“We are excited to welcome kahu Kaunaloa to our campus ohana to support our students in their faith and those foundational values. He has been a dedicated servant leader and educator here on Hawaii Island for nearly two decades.”
Boshard has been an ordained minister with the United Church of Christ in Hawaii since 1998. For the past four years, he has directed the Transitional Learning Center for at-risk youth at Kealakehe High School. He has served for more than 15 years with the state Department of Education as a certified secondary teacher.
Boshard begins his new role July 14.
